"Intimacity" - I like it. My eyes skimmed over the word too quickly at first and I thought I had read the word as "Intimacy" , so I had to pause to read it again and sound it out, outloud, to ponder it. I'm interested that you apply the word as "our capacity for being intimate" plurally, in this post more than singularly "my intimacity", or "your intimacity". I think you hit on the way that God mainly is aiming to build that intimacity in and among us, it's just plain sense that this is something that takes encounter with God and others to build together. Intimacious , Rod!

Brutal! I had no idea that the cadets did that. I'm glad you brought it to light. Their self-interest is astonishing, but I think Obama's foreign policy is too.

Thank you for this! I'm sure I'll read it again and again... cause I too am grasping for true intimacy with God. I never really look at my own intimacity. Today I had the urge to buy my very own Nativity scene for my apartment and told my sister that I felt like the Mary figurine shouldn't be holding the baby Jesus. That he should be laying in hay. She reminded me how insensitive that would be and how if I were Mary how much I would have wanted to cuddle with my newborn baby. Perhaps this is reflective of how I have trouble being intimate with Jesus? I would rather let him lay in the hay then cuddle the God of the universe up in my arms. How amazing that must have felt for her? How do I get to the point where I feel worthy enough to be that intimate with God? hmmmm...

I have really been getting a lot from your blog lately Rod, but this one is really great. I have been thinking recently about a part of the Benner books where he says something to the effect that the journey to knowing God requires that we come to know ourselves. Without a self, where can develop honest intimacy or intimacity.

Well if it means anything to you, Rod, I was enthralled by that entire blog post! And for the large audience speaking evangelical friends - I am always a little weary taking wisdom from people who are not in the "trenches" or right at the heart of things hashing it out with real people. Thank God we are able to do that.

After attending my first cell meeting, I became inspired thinking about all of the different functions in the body of Christ. I actually looked up zygote and fetus and other body parts on wikipedia. Thanks for elaborating the white cell function. Seeing you do that with my friend on my first visit was quite riveting, and left me feeling inspired to contribute to the health of the CoH body.

I was thinking about this concept as I looked around at the PM last night and pondered the many signficant ways people live out their faith in our community. We are rich with servants who listen for God's calling in their lives and follow faithfully! When I think of our intentional communities, our faithful tithers, the cell builders and the potluck organizers, I realize how true it is that we lead one another by our faith and action. To believe that we do make a difference to one another is a very powerful reorganizer. Thanks, Rod.

I think younger leaders, like me, are learning that to take ourselves more seriously. It's surprising to many of us that the things we do lead other people. Young people are used to reacting, are used to living out of rebellion. My actions were simply reactions to other things that happened. How could they possible lead others? But I'm learning that I ought to be more serious, realize that my actions lead people, even people "above" me in some hierarchy I invented. Thanks for sharing, Rod.
